PUBLIC ARE INVITED TO JOIN IN THE BIGGEST, BEST
EARTH DAY CELEBRATION EVER AT EVERETT CROWLEY PARK

Entrance at Kerr Street & 64th Avenue in Southeast Vancouver
Gates Open at 10:30 am, Saturday, April 25th – Rain or Shine

COME OUT – DIG IN – GET DOWN & GET DIRTY
Learn trade secrets for successful tree planting!

Earth Day Volunteers will assemble to plant native trees and shrubs at Everett Crowley Park (entrance at Kerr Street and 64th Avenue) in Southeast Vancouver on Saturday, April 25th – from 11 am until 4 pm. Wind and heavy snow may have taken their toll, but organizers are confident the community will rally to "spruce up" their beautiful park. The old Kerr Road Dump is now a natural green refuge for people and wildlife, where reforesting work continues each year on Earth Day.

The celebration starts when Mayor Gregor Robertson and Park Board Chair, Raj Hundal declare the event open at 11 am. Then, live entertainment, festivities, planting and clean-up will begin. Earth Day at Everett Crowley Park offers a wide range of free family-oriented fun including professional performers, music, dancing, cultural and ecological exhibits, and very special children's activities.

Participants can also sign up for nature walks or special bird-watching tours, and enjoy spectacular views across the Fraser. The entertainment, exhibits and activities are all free and wheelchair accessible. This annual event is organized by local residents, and is supported by local businesses and the City of Vancouver. Food vendors will be on site to offer stuffed crêpes, hotdogs, ice cream, fair-trade coffee and smoothies.

"Words like carbon offsets, global warming, and sustainability are now heard in daily conversation, underlining the growing concern for Earth's future – and this can lead to positive lifestyle changes. This planet is the only place we have to live, but Earth can not sustain us without trees," says event coordinator, Lorna Gibbs. "Trees planted this Earth Day will help to ensure that there will be future Earth Days."
